This year, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) exhibition 2021 will be held in Barcelona in normal format, but not all companies are ready to take part in it, fearing the continuing coronavirus pandemic. Following Nokia, Oracle and Sony, as well as Ericsson and Facebook, who have decided not to place stands on MWC 2021, Google announced a refusal to participate in the event.
«Following our current restrictions on trips and protocols COVID-19, Google decided not to participate in Mobile World Congress this year. We will continue to work closely with GSMA and support our partners using virtual opportunities. We look forward to events this year and see you in Barcelona in 2022, “The Verge resource reported.
Google never differed in a large exposition on the MWC – the largest exhibitors here have always been company such as Samsung, Huawei, Sony and LG – but this is a world-famous brand, and the refusal of the company from participation in the exhibition can hardly be called a good sign for its organizers.
This year GSMA, the organizer of the MWC exhibition, postponed her holding from February to June in the hope that by that time the pandemic would decline. But, unfortunately, in connection with the third wave of COVID-19, a raging in many European countries, carrying out a mass event (usually attendance of the MWC is more than 100 thousand people) is still large risks for its participants. Last year, MWC became one of the first major events, which was abolished in offline mode due to COVID-19 pandemic.
