The representative of the Institute of Software of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISCAS) reported that by the end of 2022, at least 2,000 laptops on processors with an open architecture of the RISC-V will operate in this organization. It is known that the processors are based on a 64-bit set of commands RV64GC. The software developers are tasked to prepare operating systems and browsers to work in the RISC-V ecosystem.
It becomes apparent from this message that the open RISC-V platform is considered as one of the alternatives to the licensed X86 and ARM. The policy of the previous US President Donald Trump made his business, as always – sanctions against Chinese companies, including the ban on the supply of Intel server processors and the pressure on Huawei led to the fact that the Chinese began to do their own and gradually reduce dependence on a number of key Western technologies.
The open architecture of the RISC-V and the set of commands allow you to create your own processors without having to acquire a license for basic elements, and the growing community of hardware developers and software constantly adds new features to this platform and raises popularity. As in Licensed Developments, RISC-V also need to invest money and efforts. Then the architecture will be no worse, but for a number of reasons will even better proprietary solutions. Chinese developers have the opportunity to receive funding for such work and they receive it, as follows from the announcement of the extensive ISCAS program on deploying mobile jobs on RISC-V platforms.
