It became known that in February this year, Russians will be able to observe the conjunction of the planets four times, an astronomical phenomenon that will be best seen in the southern regions of the country during dawn. This was reported by the TASS news agency with reference to the words of Nikolai Zheleznov, a senior researcher at the Institute of Applied Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
«In a year, similar phenomena occur quite often, when certain planets find a connection with respect to the Earth. Four connections this month alone. There are usually 19 connections per year. The region for observation is not so important, but the further south, the better, it seems to me. The phenomenon can be seen on any territory at dawn, ”Zheleznov said.
The first conjunction of the planets – Venus with Saturn – can be seen on February 6. The conjunction of Venus with Jupiter, the two brightest planets in the solar system, will occur on February 11. Mercury and Venus will approach each other on February 10, and on February 15 it will be possible to observe the conjunction of Mercury with Jupiter.
The scientist noted that at present conditions are unfavorable for observing the planets. This is due to the fact that all planets, except Mars and Uranus, are located near the Sun. Even if another connection happens somewhere, it will be problematic to see it from the Earth, since the Sun rises with the planets. “If there is a great desire to see, then at dawn you need to climb somewhere on the mountain, where there is an open horizon to the east side, and immediately before sunrise these planets will rise,” added Nikolai Zheleznov.
